First up

This weekend, clocks move forward one hour as we shift into Daylight Saving Time. While losing an hour of sleep is never fun, longer daylight in the evenings means more time on the road, more events, and more activity around North Myrtle Beach. It is also a smart reminder to check your vehicle’s headlights, brake lights, and dashboard alerts. A simple time change is a good cue to make sure everything under the hood is ready for the busy spring season.

March in North Myrtle Beach means traffic picks up fast.

The weather warms up. Visitors start arriving. Snowbirds are still here. Locals are out more. Events fill the calendar. That also means more driving, more stop and go traffic, and more wear on your vehicle.

If your car has been coasting through winter, March is the time to make sure it is ready.

Here is what is happening around North Myrtle Beach this month and why your vehicle should not be overlooked.

One of the biggest events of the season is the 36th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, happening Saturday, March 14, 2026!

The parade begins promptly at 9:00 AM. If you plan to attend, it is smart to arrive by 8:30 AM to secure a good viewing spot. Main Street fills up quickly.

The route begins on Ocean Boulevard at 2nd Avenue North, travels south to 1st Avenue South, turns onto Hillside Drive, then continues onto Main Street, ending at Ye Olde Kings Highway.

Once the parade wraps up, the celebration continues from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a full street festival along Main Street. Expect three stages of live music, more than 150 vendors, family friendly activities, and contests including the Leprechaun contest and the Shepherd’s Pie eating contest around 1:30 PM.

It is a full day event, and it draws a serious crowd. Parking is available at McLean Park and at 2nd Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard. Overflow parking is set up at Ocean Drive Elementary School and the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center, with shuttle service running during the event.

Keep in mind that Main Street from Ash Street to Ocean Boulevard will be closed from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Ocean Boulevard will have lane closures beginning at 7:00 AM and is expected to reopen around 11:30 AM. Additional info at

65th Annual Can-Am Days Festival -March 13-22, 2026

This celebration spans about a week in mid-March and draws Canadians and snowbirds back to the Grand Strand with parades, concerts, special deals, and community events. It’s a big traffic and tourism booster, which makes it a great angle for reminding folks to get their vehicles checked before heavy travel.

More vehicles. More congestion. More daily driving. If your car has been sitting for periods of time, batteries can weaken and tire pressure can fluctuate. Spring is when these small issues start to surface.

Beach Days and Weekend Traffic

Warmer afternoons mean more beach trips, especially in Cherry Grove and along Ocean Boulevard. Short trips combined with heavier weekend traffic increase engine heat and strain. If your cooling system or oil is not in good shape, this is when performance starts to drop.

So, what does all of this mean for you and your vehicle?

Events like this mean heavier traffic, extended idling, and tight parking conditions. Stop and go driving puts additional strain on brakes and increases engine heat.

If your oil change is overdue, your battery is weak, or your brakes are already making noise, parade day is when small problems turn into inconvenient ones.

March is when driving increases across North Myrtle Beach. That makes it the ideal time to handle routine maintenance before the busy season is fully underway.

And if your oil change reminder is on, this is your window! At Cherry Grove Automotive we have a special this March, just for you! Cherry Grove Automotive is offering an oil change special this month and this month ONLY. March 1st - March 31st. Oil Change Special at Cherry Grove Automotive. Why Oil Changes Matter More in Spring

Winter driving patterns, even mild coastal winters, can shorten oil life. Short trips and inconsistent driving do not allow your engine to fully cycle the way it should.

As activity increases in March, your engine works harder.

Clean oil lubricates moving parts, reduces friction, regulates temperature, and carries away debris. When oil breaks down, internal wear increases and efficiency drops.

Spring is a natural reset point for preventative maintenance. If you cannot remember your last oil change, that is your sign!
