Celebrating Independence: The Fourth of July

The Fourth of July sparkles as a dazzling cornerstone in the history of the United States—a day when the nation joyfully commemorates its hard-won independence and passionately reflects on the principles of freedom and democracy. This annual celebration marks the electrifying adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, a pivotal moment that heralded the birth of a new nation and the exhilarating beginning of a journey toward self-governance.

The Declaration of Independence

At the heart of Independence Day lies the Declaration of Independence, a document that boldly declared the colonies' desire to break free from British rule. Drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration was a powerful statement of autonomy and a profound articulation of democratic ideals. It not only announced the separation from Great Britain but also laid the groundwork for the values that continue to define America today.

Early Celebrations and Formal Recognition

The spirit of independence was vibrant even during the American Revolutionary War, as the first Independence Day celebrations burst forth amidst the struggle for freedom. The fervor of the new nation was expressed through lively parades, blazing bonfires, and the now-iconic fireworks, serving as symbols of hope and resilience.

While the Continental Congress voted for independence on July 2nd, it was the 4th of July that became etched in history as the day of formal adoption. This distinction has cemented July 4th as the day Americans come together to joyously honor their nation's founding.

An Ongoing Tradition

Today, the Fourth of July is a jubilant celebration of American culture and patriotism, marked by a continuation of traditions that began more than two centuries ago. From vibrant parades and dazzling fireworks displays to festive family picnics and rousing patriotic concerts, the day is a collective homage to the enduring spirit of independence.

As we gather to celebrate this historic occasion, we not only pay tribute to the past but also look toward the future with excitement, reaffirming our commitment to the ideals of liberty and justice for all. The Fourth of July is a vibrant reminder of the power of unity and the promise of a nation founded on the principles of freedom and equality.

If you wanted to escape the weekend beach traffic, I have recently discovered two really great places just outside of North Myrtle Beach! If you took highway 22 west to 701 north got off, made a right then a left on highway 67 west (1101 State Hwy 67, Loris, SC 29569 to be exact) you could find the cutest little farm called Home Sweet Farm. They have a variety of products! Raw and regular milk, local cheese, local beef and pork, fresh fruit and vegetables and even hand dipped ice cream. Might I also mention the blackberries, they are the best I have ever had and they will be ripe soon! Might I add, Home sweet Farm has been making a visit to the North Myrtle Beach Farmers Market on Fridays!

After you’ve picked up your fresh vegetables and meat, you could continue on 67 to highway 45, make a right and then make a left onto highway 19 east and proceed to 2900 strawberry lane. What is on strawberry lane? Oh, just Tylers flower farm! You can pick your own fresh flowers on this SC Century Farm. This farm has been in the same family for over 100 years and some of the nicest people you have ever met. I think it’s a dollar a stem, super reasonable and a great activity for kids, my 13 year old son enjoyed it.

Head out about 40 minutes from NMB to loris SC and have an afternoon packed with fun. Not too far but feels like another world! Home Sweet Farm and Tylers flower farm.

Also, a quick update to last months post; Low country market now has FRESH SEAFOOD! If you have forgotten, they are located on highway 90 in Longs, just before Wendy’s on the right-6951 highway 90! On my way home the other night, I saw some beautiful hanging flower baskets! They were gorgeous!

Do you have company coming in from out of town? If you're on the hunt for an unforgettable experience, look no further than River Island Adventures—truly a hidden gem nestled in Longs. It's a bit of a mystery why this place isn't more in the spotlight, because it offers an array of activities that are nothing short of spectacular. Whether you're a thrill-seeker or simply looking to unwind, there's something for everyone.

Every Friday, you can immerse yourself in their Adventure Luau, a vibrant celebration that perfectly blends excitement and relaxation. And mark your calendars for Saturday, July 5th, when they're hosting the Family Fest event. This day promises fun for all ages with water slides, bounce houses, s’mores, a rubber duck race, a watermelon eating contest, and, to top it all off, a dazzling fireworks display.

Beyond these events, River Island Adventures offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can choose to camp under the stars, glamp in style, or explore the waterways with kayaks or tubing. For those seeking a unique stay, their tree houses provide a cozy and adventurous accommodation option.

As the heat takes not one of us by surprise, it's a wonderful time to bask in the abundance of outdoor activities that living in North Myrtle Beach offers. However, let's not forget our furry companions when planning these sunny adventures.

Temperatures inside cars and on parking lot asphalt can quickly rise, posing a risk to our beloved pets. Remember, they don’t have shoes to shield their paws from scorching surfaces. With the fireworks on the fourth, they may need a little extra care.

If you're near Cherry Grove Automotive, we’d love for you to drop by. We’ve got refreshingly cold water for both you and your dog, and our pet-friendly environment is a welcoming spot to enjoy a cool break. Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine with your four-legged friends!

Thanks for riding along with us! At Cherry Grove Automotive, we’re proud to serve our neighbors with honest service, expert repairs, and a commitment to keeping your vehicle road ready. Got a question? Need to book a service? We’re just a phone call or pit stop away.
