South Carolina Hands-Free Driving Law – The CliffsNotes Version-
What’s Now Illegal
As of September 1, 2025, you can't hold your phone while driving. No exceptions for your lap or shoulder—if it touches any part of your body, it’s a no-go.
You also can’t:
Read, compose, or send texts, emails, social media stuff, or websites.
Watch video, play games, or make video calls.
But There Are Exceptions-
You can use your phone if:
You're lawfully parked or stopped.
You’re using voice-to-text (without touching the device).
You're reporting an accident, emergency, or safety hazard.
You're a first responder on duty.
You’re using it for navigation or audio—provided it’s not held.
You're using vehicle-installed systems or manufacturer gear.
Grace Period & Enforcement Timeline
From September 1 through February 28, 2026, law enforcement will issue warnings only—a friendly heads-up to get your act together.
Starting March 1, 2026, if your phone is in your hand while driving, you’re looking at:
1st offense: $100 fine
2nd offense (within 3 years): $200 fine plus 2 points on your license
Why It Matters
Distracted driving isn’t just annoying—it’s deadly. South Carolina sees over 20,000 crashes a year tied to distractions. Texting while driving? It’s six times more dangerous than drunk driving.
Lawmakers, including Rep. Bill Taylor, pushed this law through to save lives—and even prevent the state from losing up to $50 million in federal safety funding.

September 11th: A Day We Will Never Forget
On September 11, 2001, the United States was forever changed. Four coordinated terrorist attacks struck at the heart of our nation’s sense of safety and unity. Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third struck the Pentagon, and a fourth—United Airlines Flight 93—was brought down in a Pennsylvania field after passengers fought back against the hijackers. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost, and countless others were injured.
The images from that morning remain etched in our collective memory: the smoke rising from Manhattan’s skyline, the chaos in the streets, and the extraordinary heroism of first responders who ran toward danger when everyone else was running away. Firefighters, police officers, medical teams, and everyday citizens acted without hesitation, saving lives even as they risked their own. Many never came home.
But September 11th is also remembered for what came after. Americans pulled together. In New York and Washington, but also here in small towns and coastal communities like North Myrtle Beach, people gathered to pray, to raise flags, and to support one another in shared grief. We were united not by geography, but by heart.
Here along the Grand Strand, many families felt the impact directly. Some had loved ones in New York or Washington. Others were part of the military or first responder community. Churches held vigils. Schools observed moments of silence. Local fire and police departments, already the backbone of safety here at home, stood shoulder to shoulder with their brothers and sisters in uniform across the country.
Every year since, North Myrtle Beach has continued to honor that day. Flags fly high along Main Street and Highway 17. Memorial services are held by veterans’ groups, civic organizations, and churches. It’s a reminder that even in a place known for sunshine and vacations, we never forget the weight of September 11th.
For those who lived through it, the memories remain sharp. For younger generations, it has become history taught in classrooms—but it’s our responsibility to share not just what happened, but what it meant. It meant courage in the face of fear. It meant unity in the face of division. It meant sacrifice that deserves to be honored, not just once a year, but always.
“Never Forget” is more than words—it’s a promise. A promise to remember the lives lost, to honor the heroes who answered the call, and to carry forward the spirit of resilience that defined us then and defines us now.
Here at Cherry Grove Automotive, we hold deep respect for all veterans, first responders, and their families. On September 11th and every day, we say thank you. Your service reminds us what it means to stand strong as a community.
💙 A Note of Thanks
Cherry Grove Automotive proudly offers discounts for all veterans and first responders—not just on September 11th, but every day of the year. It’s one small way we can give back to the men and women who give so much.

September on the Grand Strand: Events, Traffic, and Smart Car Care
As September settles in, North Myrtle Beach wakes up. Between SOS Fall Migration (September 11–21) and Bike Week (September 29–October 5), our roads get busier, parking gets tighter, and “I’ll get to it later” car maintenance suddenly becomes “uh-oh, is that noise new?”
Alright—let’s get your ride ready for a packed local calendar.
SOS Fall Migration: Shine, Sound, and Safety
If you’re cruising Main Street or hopping venue to venue, do yourself a favor:
Oil & Filter: Fresh oil protects your engine when you’re idling in traffic or making short hops.
Brakes & Tires: Quick stop-and-go? You’ll want confident stopping power and good tread.
Battery & Lights: Night events + more stoplights = check your charge and bulbs now, not later.
Yes, we’re biased—but we also keep it real: our oil changes are among the lowest-priced in Horry County without cutting corners on quality. Ask around.
Bike Week: Respect the Ride, Prep the Drive
From September 29–October 5, expect heavier traffic and more two-wheelers. Please:
Look twice, save a life—always check mirrors and blind spots.
Cooling System: Engines hate creeping traffic. Let’s make sure your coolant is on point.
Alignment & Suspension: If your car’s drifting or your steering wheel isn’t centered, fix it now so you’re not fighting the wheel all week.

Friday Reminder: North Myrtle Beach Farmers Market
Support your neighbors, grab something fresh, and enjoy the morning—then swing by us for a quick service. The North Myrtle Beach Farmers Market runs every Friday, 10 AM–3 PM. Local produce + a smooth-running car? That’s how you do Friday.

Quick Heads-Up: Friday Markets = Friday Traffic
If you’re heading to the North Myrtle Beach Farmers Market, Fridays 10 AM–3 PM, plan a little buffer time. Or beat the rush: book an early-morning oil change with us, then head straight to the market.
North Myrtle Beach Suspension Special – Limited Time Offer | Cherry Grove Automotive

If your ride feels rough, your tires wear unevenly, or your steering wheel pulls, it’s time to check your suspension. Cherry Grove Automotive’s Suspension Special keeps you driving smooth and safe—but hurry, this deal ends soon! Book now and take advantage of expert service at a price that won’t last.
Why Suspension Matters More Than You Think
When people think of car maintenance, oil changes and brakes usually come first. But your suspension system quietly does a lot of heavy lifting—literally. It absorbs bumps, keeps your tires in contact with the road, and helps your vehicle handle safely, whether you’re cruising Ocean Boulevard or navigating Highway 17 traffic.
A suspension that’s worn or damaged doesn’t just make your drive uncomfortable—it makes it unsafe. Poor suspension can lead to longer stopping distances, uneven tire wear, and loss of control in emergency situations.
Signs You Might Need Suspension Service
Not sure if it’s time for a check? Here are some common red flags:
🚙 Bumpy or shaky ride – You feel every crack, dip, and bump in the road.
🚙 Pulling to one side – The steering wheel doesn’t stay straight, even on a flat road.
🚙 Uneven tire wear – One side or corner of your tires looks more worn down than the rest.
🚙 Nose dives when braking – Your car lurches forward when you hit the brakes.
🚙 Oily shocks or struts – Visible leaks around your suspension components.
If you’re nodding “yep” to one or more of these, it’s time to bring your vehicle in.
